Abstract
This document contains information about the Section 904 Violence Against Indian Women in Indian Country Researchers' Workshop held in New Jersey from March 31 - April 1, 2009. The first section contains a summary of key themes discussed during the workshop as they pertain to a proposed program of research under Section 903 of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) of 2005. These key themes center on the following: sampling; enrollment status; age of respondents; scales and measures; culturally appropriate methods, scales, and measures; modes of administration; location of interviews; ethical considerations; facilitating participation by tribal communities; and outreach and marketing. The document also includes the final agenda for the workshop. The topics for the workshop were 1) Overview of VAWA 2005, Title IX, Section 904a & NIJ's Proposed Program of Research; 2) Facilitated Discussion - NIJ's Primary Data Collection Plan; 3) Facilitated Discussion - Group Reports and Participant Discussion for each of the key themes; and 4) Facilitated Discussion - NIJ's Secondary Data Analysis Plan. The final section of the document contains brief, biographical sketches for the Workshop's participants.
