Abstract
THE HISTORY OF PRIVATE SECURITY AND POLICING COVERS THE PERIOD FROM BIBLICAL TIMES TO THE PRESENT DAY. THE PRESSING NEED FOR WELL-TRAINED PRIVATE SECURITY OFFICERS IS EMPHASIZED. THE POINT IS BROUGHT OUT THAT THERE ARE MANY OPENINGS FOR SECURITY OFFICERS - THESE CAN BE FILLED BY INDIVIDUALS WITH MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS SO LONG AS THEY ARE WILLING TO BE TRAINED AND THEY WILL DEDICATE THEMSELVES TO THEIR WORK. WHILE QUICK REFLEXES, AGILITY, AND SNAP DECISIONS MAY BE CALLED FOR, IT IS THE 'ROCKLIKE STEADINESS' OF THE SECURITY OFFICER THAT IS HIS GREATEST CHALLENGE AND THE MEASURE OF HIS WORTH TO HIS EMPLOYER.
