A MONOGRAPH ON PLANNING PROCEDURES DESIGNED TO MAKE CRIMINAL JUSTICE POLICY DECISIONS BOTH MORE EFFECTIVE AND MORE CONSISTENTLY ACCEPTED AND SUPPORTED BY THE PUBLIC.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR CONSIDERS THE PLANNING PROCESS IN THE CONTEXT OF MODERN, COMPLEX SOCIETY; THE IMPORTANCE OF VALID INFORMATION, AND THE ORGANIZATION OF THAT INFORMATION WITHIN A CONCEPTUAL-POLICY ORIENTED FRAMEWORK; THE UTILIZATION OF AVAILABLE DATA AND RESEARCH FINDINGS; AND THE GENERATION OF ADDITIONAL DATA WHERE NEEDED. THESE CONSIDERATIONS, ALONG WITH SEVERAL THEORETICAL ORIENTATIONS TO CRIME, ARE DEVELOPED TO MAKE SPECIFIC SUGGESTIONS ABOUT IMPROVING PLANNING AS A PROCESS IN THE JUVENILE AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEMS. A SET OF PLANNING PROPOSITIONS AND OUTLINES OF SPECIFIC PROGRAMS ARE OFFERED AS GUIDANCE TO PLANNERS AND POLICYMAKERS. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
