Abstract
Six facilities participated in this pilot program designed to provide staff with specialized interpersonal communications and conflict resolution training. The training goal was to reduce facility tension by helping staff to improve their interactions with inmates. At the end of the program in March 1989, 82 percent of the combined total of 4,869 staff members at the 6 facilities had been trained. An analysis of 834 participant evaluations showed that 88 percent identified the course as useful. 3 figures, 5 tables, and 1 appendix
