RESULTS OF A SURVEY OF 42 POLICE FORCES IN ENGLAND AND WALES TO DETERMINE THE EXTENT AND NATURE OF THE USE OF FACSIMILE FOR DOCUMENT TRANSMISSION, AS WELL AS ITS LIMITATIONS AND POSSIBILITIES FOR EXPANDED USE.
Abstract
ALTHOUGH THE SURVEY REVEALED LITTLE REQUIREMENT FOR FACSIMILE TRANSMISSION, THE METHOD DID EXHIBIT COST EFFECTIVENESS FOR TRANSMISSION OF CRIMINAL RECORDS FROM RECORDS OFFICES TO COURTS. THE POSSIBILITY FOR GREATER DEMAND WAS FOUND TO EXIST IF MACHINES CAPABLE OF FASTER TRANSMISSION BECOME AVAILABLE.
