This toolkit was developed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to provide assistance to grassroots community- and faith-based service providers.
Abstract
This toolkit is aimed to providing assistance to grassroots community- and faith-based service providers to enable them to operate in a sustainable and efficient manner and continue to provide services to the community. It is noted that while long-standing and well-established organizations often have resources and revenue streams available to them, grassroots organizations usually have limited resources but may be in a position to attract diverse funding partners. Information in this toolkit is presented in six sections. The first section provides information on the strategic planning process and lists the components of a strategic plan. The second section examines organizational assessment and readiness and provides a list of organizational assessment tools. The third section lists effective marketing strategies that grassroots organizations can employ to grow and sustain their programs. The fourth section provides information on effective financial management practices for use by service providers, while the fifth section discusses sustainability strategies for organizations that include how to conduct effective fund raising and develop diversified funding sources. The final section of the toolkit provides information to organizations on developing and planning for a results-oriented evaluation. Tables and handouts
