This booklet provides a guide to assessing the performance of both community policing departments and individual community officers at work on the street.
Abstract
The booklet outlines the basic ideals of a community policing department, provides a checklist of sample questions to facilitate performance assessment, and details the process for evaluating the community police officer. To develop a suitable performance evaluation for the community officer first requires identifying the many objectives of an ideal evaluation and reassuring those within the department that they will be allowed input into the process of developing their own performance measurements. Appendixes provide a sample job description, a management by objective work plan, and a community officer significant incident log. 2 footnotes and 3 appendixes
