THE REPORT BRIEFLY REVIEWS THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE NOTION OF EFFECTIVENESS IN CORRECTIONAL TREATMENT AND THE APPLICATION OF MATHEMATICS TO MEDICAL AND PSYCHIATRIC CLINICAL WORK AND THE POSSIBILITIES OF ADAPTING THEM TO CRIMINOLOGY. THE REPORT IS BASED ON WORK WHICH HAS APPEARED IN FRENCH.
