Abstract
The 20 subchapters of The Children's Code, Chapter 48, are presented, covering such matters as jurisdiction, general provisions, county child welfare services, child welfare agencies, permanency planning and records, and termination of parental rights. Eight sections of the Mental Health Act which relate to children are also included: (1) legislative policy, (2) definitions, (3) admission of minors, (4) emergency detention, (5) involuntary commitment for treatment, (6) transfer of certain children from juvenile correctional facilities, (7) prevention and control of alcoholism, and (8) alcohol and other drug abuse treatment for minors. Chapters 115, 118, and 120, are also presented; they deal with compulsory school attendance, truancy, school records, expulsions and suspensions, children with exceptional educational needs, and bilingual-bicultural education. Chapter 125, alcohol laws relating to children, is included with sections divided into the following headings: definitions; under-age and intoxicated persons, presence on licensed premises, possession, penalties; general restrictions; regulation of under-age persons; suspension and revocation by the courts; blood alcohol level of under-age persons; and intoxicants in vehicles. Finally, answers to commonly asked questions about the Children's Code and related statutes are supplied; they address such issues as the use of citations under the Children's Code, the definition of 'fugitive,' and the difference between State and county aftercare.
