The National Gang Center’s Voices From the Field podcast shares engaging, in-depth conversations with experts exploring topics that contribute to the development of Community Violence Intervention strategies to address gang and gun violence in communities. 

Abstract

This episode focuses on identifying opportunities for intervention along the course of youth gang association and applying this knowledge to develop community violence intervention efforts aimed at interrupting the cycle of violence. Topic areas include: Reviewing the dynamics of gang involvement including "pushes and pulls" that motivate youth gang association and the trajectory of gang embeddedness; Understanding factors that lead to the process of disengagement from gang association including life course events and the "pushes and pulls" that motivate to desistance; Identifying opportunities for intervention along the course of gang association and leveraging this knowledge in community violence intervention efforts.
