This policy report explains the challenges that must be addressed in connecting youth, ages 16 to 24, to jobs and opportunity.
The report reviews the most recent research and data that illustrate conditions for 16-24 year-olds, with a focus on those youth who are neither in school nor working. The research shows a positive return on investment for programs that advance academic, social, and career skills. This report then identifies barriers these youth must overcome, and it offers approaches for getting youth engaged in actions that can improve their options for employment. The core recommendation of the report is that business, government, philanthropy, and communities collaborate and join resources in creating opportunities to guide youth in becoming prepared for participation in an economy that can provide them the resources and opportunities needed for a fulfilling life. Specific recommendations are offered for designing and implementing such a strategy. 42 notes
