BJS Releases Crime Known to Law Enforcement, 2025; Homicide Victimization in the United States, 2025; and Homicide Victimization in the United States, 2024
The Bureau of Justice Statistics, in the Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs, released Crime Known to Law Enforcement, 2025; Homicide Victimization in the United States, 2025; and Homicide Victimization in the United States, 2024 today.
Crime Known to Law Enforcement, 2025 details rates of violent and property crime in the United States based on offenses reported by law enforcement agencies from 2024 to 2025. It also presents national and subnational estimates of crime offenses and victimizations for violent and property crime. Findings in the report, the third in an annual series, are based on BJS’s and the FBI’s National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) Estimation Program. NIBRS collects detailed information on crime incidents reported to law enforcement throughout the United States.
Homicide Victimization in the United States, 2025 and Homicide Victimization in the United States, 2024 present findings on homicide victimization for 2025 and 2024 based on BJS’s and the FBI’s NIBRS Estimation Program and the FBI’s Supplementary Homicide Reports. The reports also provide the number and rate of homicide victimizations reported by law enforcement agencies in the United States, including victim demographic characteristics, victim-offender relationships, the type of weapon(s) present, and the number of victims involved in the incident.
BJS also released the 2025 NIBRS National Estimates through an Application Programming Interface, or API, and updated the Law Enforcement Agency Reported Crime Analysis Tool (LEARCAT) with 2025 data.
