This webinar will provide an overview of the various elements of the Bureau of Justice Assistance's FY25 National Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) funding opportunity. This session will provide a comprehensive overview of the opportunity, including eligibility criteria, application requirements, and key considerations for prospective applicants.
Since 2015, the SAKI program has provided funding to state, local, and tribal jurisdictions to support multidisciplinary teams in addressing the issue of unsubmitted and partially tested sexual assault kits (SAKs) and related violent crime cold cases. Through this initiative, jurisdictions can:
- Inventory, track, and test previously unsubmitted and partially tested SAKs.
- Collect and analyze lawfully owed DNA from offenders and arrestees.
- Develop and implement victim-centered protocols for investigation, prosecution, and notification.
- Investigate and prosecute cold case sexual assault and other violent cold case crimes.
