Annotation

This is a revised summary of the statistical report on criminal victimizations in the United States in 2016, as recorded by the National Crime Victimization Survey.

Abstract

Provides revised official estimates, which replace previously released 2016 estimates that did not permit year-to-year-comparisons. The report examines violent crimes (rape or sexual assault, robbery, aggravated assault, and simple assault) and property crimes (household burglary, motor vehicle theft, and other theft) reported and not reported to police. It also includes data on domestic violence, intimate partner violence, injury to victims, and weapon use. See Criminal Victimization, 2016 to review the original release.

• The rate of violent victimization against males increased from 2015 to 2016, rising from 15.9 to 19.6 per 1,000 males age 12 or older. 
• From 2015 to 2016, the rate of aggravated assault against males age 12 or older rose from 2.7 to 4.2 per 1,000.
• The rate of violent victimization against persons ages 25 to 34 rose from 21.8 per 1,000 persons to 28.4 per 1,000 from 2015 to 2016, and the rate for females in this age group rose from 24.6 to 33.4 per 1,000.
