This publication of the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) is the solicitation overview for the FY 2024 John R. Justice Formula Grant Program. State governments and state and U.S. territory government agencies designated by their governor to administer the JRJ Grant Program are eligible to apply. States receive funding for student loan repayment assistance to state, local, and federal public defenders and local and state prosecutors who commit to extended service in those roles. The program’s purpose is to offer an incentive to attract and retain qualified public defenders and prosecutors who will remain employed in that capacity for a minimum of 36 months. BJA encourages the following entities to apply: state agencies designated by the governor to administer the JRJ program and states that currently do not participate in the JRJ grant program. The flier also offers examples of strategies/activities that can be funded, tips for success, and details about how and when to apply and where to get more information.
