This equipment standard is a technical document that specifies performance and other requirements that equipment should meet to satisfy the needs of criminal justice agencies for high-quality service. It is intended to establish performance requirements and methods of test for active hand-held metal detectors used to find metal weapons and/or metal contraband carried on a person and/or concealed by a nonmetal object. The document identifies Federal, local, and State law enforcement and corrections agencies that provided comments and input to the writing of the standard. The document presents data in five major sections: (1) Requirements for Acceptance; (2) Performance Testing Procedures; (3) Field Testing Procedures; (4) Test Objects Description; and (5) Report Sheets on Requirements for Acceptance, Detection Sensitivity, Speed Test, Repeatability and Discrimination.
