Contains the presentations made at the National Conference on Sex Offender Registries sponsored in August 1997 by BJS and SEARCH, the National Consortium for Justice Information and Statistics. Included are presentations and materials by Federal, State and local governmental representatives, administrators, and researchers. The conference is the latest in the series of national conferences sponsored by BJS addressing issues related to criminal record data quality, identification, domestic violence, and sex offenders. This document provides background for the National Sex Offender Registry Assistance Program for FY 1998, announced in the Federal Register on March 27 to fund State sex offender registries.
