The Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) funded National TeleNursing Center (NTC) was implemented by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health's Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program to develop and evaluate telemedicine in providing consultation to SANE nurses conducting forensic sexual assault medical examinations in remote and/or underserved hospitals. Unique challenges facing NTC expansion include: interstate licensing requirements; differing procedures, protocols, and policies for testing evidence kits, as well as differences in evidence kits themselves; and general financial sustainability of the program(s). In addressing the general sustainability of the NTC, this report presents and evaluates three core themes: Building Capacity for Sustainability, Building Capacity for Technical Assistance, and Building Sustainability through Nursing Scholarship and Leadership.
