This training module presents information for addressing the problem of sexual abuse of youth in custody.
Abstract
This training module, Module 3 - Adolescent Development, is part of a broader instructional series, developed by the National Institute of Corrections and American University's Washington College of Law, titled Addressing Sexual Abuse of Youth in Custody. The object of this module is to "understand and identify the components of adolescent development". The module covers the stages, or types, of adolescent development including: 1) brain development, 2) cognitive development, 3) behavioral development, 4) emotional development and romantic attachments, and 5) sexual development. It concludes with characteristics of adolescent development and its challenges for youth in custody, presenting and discussing issues and opportunities for this population.
