The National Institute of Corrections (NIC), program for fiscal year 1985 is presented.
Abstract
Training programs will include a management series for correctional managers and executive seminars focusing on special issues in correctional agency management; a training series, including training of trainers, and training design, development administration, and management; special issues seminars for prison, jail, and community corrections personnel; an outreach program designed to increase the availability of National Academy of Corrections services to State and local agencies; and a series of Federal Prison System/Academy cosponsored training programs. Technical assistance programs will include direct technical assistance, technical assistance grants, and targeted technical assistance in the form of Jail Area Resource Centers and through programs concerned with planning new institutions, facility population management, State resource development, prison industry, and community corrections issues. The NIC Information Center will continue to provide information dissemination services. Policy and program development activities for 1985 will include the pilot of a community corrections model, analysis of types of financial assistance to local community corrections, development of manuals on management or crowded facilities and on prison security, and development of a design guide for small jails.
