Abstract
The report presents an overview of the drug problem in 1991 that encompasses drug trends and indicators and drug supply and demand issues. Committee activities during 1991 involved hearings that focused on the national control strategy, heroin control, drug treatment in prisons, the drug supply from Andean countries, Federal drug interdiction efforts, drug abuse and drug trafficking in New York, the role of the Department of Justice in the war on drugs, drug-exposed children in schools, drug treatment, and rehabilitation services for drug-abusing criminal offenders. The committee was also involved in international drug- related activities and in the introduction of legislation designed to control drugs and treat drug abuse. The committee held special meetings to evaluate drug treatment policies and programs and took note of General Accounting Office reports on drug-related issues. An appendix lists publications of the House Select Committee on Narcotics Abuse and Control.
