A SUMMARY OF EXISTING POLICE-COMMUNITY RELATIONS PROGRAMS, INCLUDING CITIZEN INVOLVEMENT PROGRAMS, COLLEGE ORIENTED PROGRAMS, THE OFFICER FRIENDLY PROJECT, CRIME PREVENTION PROGRAMS, AND SPECIAL COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES.
Abstract
A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF EACH PROGRAM IS PROVIDED. AMONG THE COMMUNITY RELATIONS ACTIVITIES DISCUSSED ARE THE USE OF POLICE STORE FRONT CENTERS, CITYWIDE AND NEIGHBORHOOD ADVISORY COMMITTEES, POLICE COMMUNITY WORKSHOPS, AND POLICE DRUG ABUSE PROGRAMS. PROJECTS IN WHICH POLICE OFFICERS LECTURE COMMUNITY OR SCHOOL GROUPS, SUCH AS THE OFFICER FRIENDLY PROGRAM, THE COPE WITH COPS PROGRAM, OR PROJECT GO (GROWTH OPPORTUNITIES) ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. OTHER SPECIAL PROJECTS, SUCH AS SPORTING EVENTS, SELF DEFENSE INSTRUCTION FOR WOMEN, A BLOCK PARENT PROGRAM, MEDIA PROGRAMS, VACATION ACTIVITIES, AND TEACHER WORKSHOPS ARE OUTLINED AS WELL. A NUMERICAL ANALYSIS OF THE ACTIVITIES FOR THE YEAR, PROVIDING FIGURES ON THE NUMBER OF MEETINGS AND NUMBER OF CONTACTS IS INCLUDED.
