DATA ON THE PAROLE PERFORMANCE BY YEAR OF RELEASE, SEX, AGE, TIME ON PAROLE PRIOR TO VIOLATION, INSTITUTION, ETHNIC GROUP, AND OFFENSE.
Abstract
TABLE 1 SHOWS MULTI-YEAR PAROLE PERFORMANCE, DETAILING THE YEARLY NUMBER AND PERCENT OF WARDS REVOKED OR DISCHARGED WITHIN 15 MONTHS ON PAROLE, FOR WARDS RELEASED TO PAROLE BETWEEN 1960 AND 1972. THE PERCENT OF VIOLATORS WAS CONSISTENT FOR THOSE RELEASED IN THE YEARS 1960 THROUGH 1968. FOR 1969, 1970, AND 1971 RELEASES, THE PERCENTAGE OF PAROLE VIOLATORS WERE DECREASING. HOWEVER, IN 1972 IT ROSE BY 2 PERCENTAGE POINTS FROM 1971. TABLE 2 SHOWS TIME ON PAROLE PRIOR TO VIOLATION FOR WARDS RELEASED TO PAROLE IN 1972. TABLE 3 SHOWS VIOLATION STATUS AT 15 MONTHS ON PAROLE BY INSTITUTION OF RELEASE AND COURT OF COMMITMENT. TABLE 4 SHOWS VIOLATION STATUS AT 15 MONTHS BY COMMITTING COURT FOR FOUR DIFFERENT VARIABLES - ADMISSION STATUS, ETHNIC GROUP, AGE AT RELEASE, AND COMMITMENT OFFENSE. THUS, CRIMINAL COURT FIRST COMMITMENTS CAN BE COMPARED AGAINST CRIMINAL COURT PAROLE RETURNS, BOTH WITH AND WITHOUT NEW COURT COMMITMENTS. ETHNIC GROUP, AGE AT RELEASE, AND COMMITMENT OFFENSE CAN BE COMPARED IN A SIMILAR MANNER. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
