Personnel requirements regarding the employment of policewomen in various municipal, State, and Federal law enforcement agencies are presented.
Abstract
The status of female police officers in the Houston and Detroit Police Departments is noted. Each department's eligibility standards, recruitment tactics, selection procedures, training requirements and policies, assignments, promotions practices, and separation figures are delineated. Similar information is given for the Kansas City Police Department (Kansas) and for the following Federal law enforcement agencies: the FBI, the Bureau of Prisons, Department of Agriculture (for the criminal investigator position), and the Internal Revenue Service (for the special agent and internal security inspector positions). A list of career positions for women in six Federal agencies and of women in Federal law enforcement are included. Articles on women in the California Highway Patrol and on New Jersey's all-female police academy are provided. Endnotes and tables are included.
