Data were collected from intake interviews of 364 adults molested as children to determine the relationship between characteristics of abuse and elapsed time before the adults seek treatment with child sexual abuse as the presenting problem. The data were evaluated using the Stepwise Multiple Linear Regression analysis.
Abstract
According to the result, four factors were significantly related to the time between molestation and treatment. Those who sought treatment early had reported their abuse, were older when abuse began, had an abuse of long duration, and experienced more sexual acts. These findings tie in with research on abuse amnesia and may provide clinical models to understanding some survivor coping mechanisms. 11 references (Author abstract modified)
