This document provides descriptive and statistical information on adult correctional facilities and programs in all of Canada and in individual Provinces and territories, covering 3 fiscal years -- 1978-79, 1979-80, and 1980-81.
Abstract
Separate chapters cover the Federal sector and each of the 12 Provinces and territories. Each chapter begins with a statistical summary and then outlines the administrative structure of the correctional services. The report also reviews legislative and policy developments over the 3-year period and describes some community corrections programs. Custodial statistics cover operational data (rated capacity, operating costs, and staffing); caseloads; population by age, sex, and racial origin; escapes and deaths; and capacity indicators and costs associated with privately operated facilities. Similar data are provided for probation and parole services. Each chapter also lists adult corrections costs, expenditures on major construction projects, and funded agencies, with corresponding contributions or grants. Appendixes contain a glossary, a list of tables, population statistics, an organizational chart, and a list of contact persons. Numerous tables and graphs are used throughout the text.
