Annotation

After describing the objectives and methodology of the 1981-82 cost-effectiveness analysis of supervising misdemeanant probationers in Hamilton County, Ohio, this report presents formats for the study's files.

Abstract

The study's primary objective was to examine relationships among supervision costs, the collection of< court costs, fines, restitution, types of supervision, risk assessment, and probationer conduct. Probationers were initially classified according to risk assessment and then randomly assigned to a supervision category. Risk potential was a numerical score derived from demographic background variables, prior record, and substance use history. Data were collected on 2,756 misdemeanant probation experiences between January 1, 1981, and December 31, 1982. There are 6,618 records of misdemeanors in the data file. This report presents formats for four files. The documentation file explains each of the other three files. The data file contains a list of all data used in determining the cost effectiveness of supervising misdemeanant probationers. The third file contains the source code to the programs used in collecting and reporting data, and the fourth file is a collection of documentation on project programs and methods.
