Abstract
THIS HANDBOOK, DESIGNED FOR THE BENEFIT OF INMATES, EXPLAINS WHAT IS EXPECTED, AS WELL AS WHAT SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE IN JAIL. ALL ORDERS GIVEN BY AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ARE TO BE PROMPTLY OBEYED, THE PRIVACY AND PROPERTY OF OTHERS ARE TO BE RESPECTED, AND ASSIGNED WORK AREAS ARE TO BE STRICTLY OBSERVED. ALL INMATES ARE ASSIGNED A NUMBER, AND ALL PERSONAL PROPERTY WORN UPON ADMISSION IS TAGGED AND STORED, TO BE RETURNED UPON RELEASE. MONEY IS KEPT IN THE INMATE TRUST FUND; DEPOSITS FROM FAMILY AND FRIENDS MAY BE MADE FOR INMATES. VARIOUS ITEMS OF FOOD AND REFRESHMENT, APPROVED CLOTHING, TOILET ARTICLES, AND WRITING PAPER ARE AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE IN THE INMATE COMMISSARY. A TOTAL OF FIVE VISITORS MAY BE INCLUDED ON THE VISITING LIST. ONE 30 MINUTE VISIT IS ALLOWED EACH WEEK; VISITORS MUST PRESENT PROPER IDENTIFICATION, ACT IN AN ORDERLY MANNER, AND BE PROPERLY DRESSED FOR A BUSINESS-TYPE MEETING. NO PACKAGES, MAIL, FOOD, MAGAZINES, OR OTHER ITEMS MAY BE BROUGHT BY VISITORS. INMATES MAY WRITE TO ANYONE AS OFTEN AS THEY WISH, PROVIDED LETTERS DO NOT VIOLATE U.S. POST OFFICE REGULATIONS. REGULATION CLOTHING AND SHOES HAVE BEEN ISSUED AND MUST BE WORN DURING JAIL CONFINEMENT. PERSONAL HYGIENE STANDARDS SHOULD BE MAINTAINED, AND THE CELL SHALL BE KEPT CLEAN AND ORDERLY AT ALL TIMES. ACTIVITIES AND PROGRAMS AVAILABLE TO INMATES INCLUDE RELIGIOUS COUNSELING, EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS, VOCATIONAL TRAINING, RECREATION, CRAFTS, MUSIC AND THE LIBRARY. ANY INFORMATION OR ASSISTANCE REQUIRED CONCERNING COURT OR CASE STATUS SHOULD BE DIRECTED TO THE COURT DEPUTY. (LWM)
