Abstract
FOLLOWING A BRIEF REVIEW OF COURT CASES RELEVANT TO INMATE RIGHTS, THE MANUAL COVERS ADMISSIONS PROCEDURES SUCH AS INTERVIEWING, ISSUANCE OF CLOTHING, SPECIAL PROCEDURES FOR JUVENILES AND INMATES WHO APPEAR TO BE INJURED OR ILL, FRISK SEARCHES AND STRIP SEARCHES, HANDLING OF PERSONAL PROPERTY, AND ISSUANCE OF THE INMATE HANDBOOKS. THEN ROUTINE JAIL PROCEDURES REGARDING RELEASE FOR COURT APPEARANCES, RELEASE TO THE HOSPITAL, VISITATION, CORRESPONDENCE, ABSENTEE VOTING, WORK ASSIGNMENTS, COMPUTATION OF GOOD TIME CREDIT, BASIC SECURITY PROCEDURES AND INMATE DISCIPLINE, ARE COVERED. SPECIAL PROCEDURES DEALT WITH PERTAIN TO INMATE INVOLVEMENT IN CONTRABAND, ABUSE OF OTHER INMATES OR BY A STAFF PERSON, ESCAPE, AND GRIEVANCE PROCEDURES. APPENDIXES CONTAIN DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS FOR FRISK SEARCHES, STRIP SEARCHES, AND CELL SEARCHES ALONG WITH A STEP-BY-STEP EXPLANATION OF THE COMPUTATION OF GOOD TIME CREDIT.
