This 2004 annual report of the Illinois Motor Vehicle Theft Prevention Council describes the challenges and accomplishments of this group during the 2004 calendar year.
Abstract
The Illinois Motor Vehicle Theft Prevention Council was established in 1991 with the goal of reducing vehicle theft, insurance fraud, and motor vehicle theft-related crimes throughout Illinois. The 2004 Council members are named and described and overviews are provided of motor vehicle theft trends in Illinois and of the Council programs from 1992 through 2004. Programs funded by the Council in 2004 totaled approximately $69 million, most of which went to fund the salaries and fringe benefits of personnel assigned to task forces and special investigative teams. Additionally, 12 programs were funded, including 7 task forces, 1 specialized prosecution program, 1 specialized investigations program, 1 vehicle theft training program, 1 vehicle maintenance program, and 1 data intelligence program; these are each briefly described in turn.
