EVALUATION USING CHANGES IN SCORES OF AN ATTITUDE TEST ADMINISTERED TO A GROUP OF INMATES BEFORE AND AFTER THEIR PARTICIPATION IN THE EDUCATIONAL COMPONENT OF THE PROGRAM.
Abstract
THE RESULTS CAN BE INTERPRETED AS THE INMATE BECOMING MORE CONTENT AND DISPLAYING A GREATER DEGREE OF OPTIMISM AS A RESULT OF THE EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE. THIS CHANGE IS INDEPENDENT OF RACE, OFFENSE, AGE, OR ASSIGNMENT TO A PARTICULAR AREA OF RESIDENCE IN THE JAIL. THIS FINDING IS SIGNIFICANT, AND IT IS IN THE DIRECTION DESIRED. ONE CAN FURTHER SEE THAT ALTHOUGH THE DIFFERENCES ON THE OTHER SCALES ARE NOT STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT THEY ARE, IN THE MAIN, IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. INCLUDED ARE DATA ON INMATE AND OFFENSE CHARACTERISTICS, TEST RESULTS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ON-GOING EVALUATION EFFORTS BY CORRECTIONAL PERSONNEL RATHER THAN 'OUTSIDERS'.
