AN OVERVIEW AND ASSESSMENT OF THIRTEEN PROJECTS, FUNDED PRIMARILY BY LEAA, WHICH REPRESENT THE POLICE, COURTS AND CORRECTIONS AREAS AS WELL AS STATE AND LOCAL AREA SPONSORSHIP.
Abstract
THE SUBJECT AREAS OF THE PROJECTS INCLUDE ALLEVIATING THE CONDITIONS THAT CAUSE CRIME, INTERVENING IN CRIMINAL CAREERS, REDUCING THE OPPORTUNITIES FOR CRIME, AND INCREASING THE RISK IN CRIME. THE FORMAT FOR THE OVERVIEWS INCLUDES THE FUNDING LEVEL, A STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM, A PROJECT DESCRIPTION, A STATEMENT OF OBJECTIVES, THE METHODOLOGY, THE RESULTS IN TERMS OF EACH OBJECTIVE, A BENEFIT COST ANALYSIS, AND A SUMMARY. FIVE POLICE PROJECTS, ONE COURTS PROJECT AND SEVEN CORRECTIONS PROJECTS ARE INCLUDED. TEN OF THE PROJECTS DEALT WITH INTERVENING IN CRIMINAL CAREERS, WITH ONE PROJECT FOR EACH OF THE THREE OTHER FUNCTIONAL CATEGORIES.
