THIS PAPER PRESENTS AN OUTLINE OF SOME OF THE BASIC OPTIONS OPEN TO LOCAL GOVERNMENTS DESIRING TO INITIATE PRETRIAL RELEASE AND DIVERSION PROGRAMS.
Abstract
THIS PAMPHLET CONTAINS A NUMBER OF SHORT DESCRIPTIONS OF PROGRAMS TO RELEASE THE ARRESTEE WHEN POSSIBLE OR TO PROVIDE ALTERNATIVE PROGRAMS TO INCARCERATION. AMONG THE PRETRIAL RELEASE PROGRAMS DESCRIBED ARE THE OAKLAND FIELD CITATION PROGRAM, RELEASE ON RECOGNIZANCE PROGRAMS, SUPERVISED PRETRIAL RELEASE, AND THE SANTA CLARA CUSTODY CLASSIFICATION PREPROCESSING CENTER WHICH REVIEWS CHANGES PRIOR TO BOOKING AND PROVIDES IMMEDIATE REVIEW FOR RELEASE ON RECOGNIZANCE. COURT AND POLICE DIVERSION PROGRAMS SUCH AS THE COURT EMPLOYMENT MODEL, DIVERSION AND TREATMENT OF THE INTOXICATED OFFENDER, DIVERSION AND TREATMENT OF THE NARCOTICS USER, AND A COMPREHENSIVE CITIZEN'S PROBATION AUTHORITY ARE ALSO DISCUSSED. ADDRESSES ARE PROVIDED FOR EACH PROGRAM DISCUSSED IN THIS PAPER.
