Abstracts present findings from evaluative and descriptive research projects, as well as statistical descriptions of the State prison population sponsored in 1985 by the Research Unit of the Massachusetts Department of Correction.
Abstract
One study focused on job placements for offenders on work release in 1982, and another study surveyed county and State programs (proposed and operating in 1984) for drunk-driving offenders. Two projects examined recidivism patterns for 1971-82 and the relationship of the trends to inmate characteristics and reintegration programming. Another study examined the first 10 years of inmate participation in a higher education program since 1973. The remaining research project analyzed the trends and 1984 profile of county incarcerations for drunk driving. Abstracts also describe eight annual statistical reports that update information on the status and characteristics of State and county prison populations. Reports present a census of the prison population as of January 1, 1985; information on 1984 commitments to county facilities; data on the movement of the prison population during 1984; and information on the number and outcomes of 1984 furloughs.
