EVALUATION OF THIS PROGRAM WHICH PROVIDED A SHORT TERM RETURN TO AN INSTITUTIONAL ENVIRONMENT GIVING THE SUBJECTS A CHANCE TO AVOID REVOKING THEIR PAROLE OR PROBATION STATUS.
Abstract
SUBJECTS IN DANGER OF HAVING THEIR PAROLE OR PROBATION REVOKED DUE TO ENVIRONMENTAL STRESS, INTERNAL STRESS OR DETERIORATING BEHAVIOR COULD BE REFERRED TO THIS CENTER FOR A PERIOD NOT TO EXCEED 14 DAYS. A CONTRACT BETWEEN THE JUVENILE AGENT, THE YOUTH, AND THE INSTITUTION CASEWORKER WAS MADE AS SOON AS THE YOUTH ENTERED THE PROGRAM TO DEFINE THE OBJECTIVES AND METHOD FOR A TREATMENT PLAN. DEMOGRAPHIC CHARACTERISTICS OF THE YOUTHS SERVED BY THIS PROGRAM ARE PRESENTED. ANALYSIS OF THE SAMPLE SERVED BY THE PROGRAM INDICATED THAT REVOCATION OF PAROLE OR PROBATION WAS PREVENTED FOR 75 PERCENT OF THE JUVENILES USING THE PROGRAM. QUESTIONNAIRES WERE GIVEN TO THE PROGRAM STAFF AND TO MINNESOTA JUVENILES AGENTS TO EVALUATE THE PROGRAM. IN GENERAL, BOTH GROUPS INDICATED SATISFACTION ALTHOUGH SUCH FACTORS AS DISTANCE, LACK OF TRANSPORTATION, AND LACK OF FULL PROGRAM UTILIZATION WERE CITED AS PROBLEMS. THIS PROGRAM HAS BEEN TERMINATED, DUE TO SUCH FACTORS AS A LOW POPULATION OF CLIENTS IN THE PROGRAM AND A HIGH COST OF OPERATION.
