Length
620 pages

This report presents the results of the national evaluation of 16 delinquency prevention projects funded by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) beginning in 1977.
Abstract
The data presented, which cover nearly 2 full years of operation, are weighted toward descriptions of how the delinquency prevention program staff organized their youth service efforts and the various theoretical and practical problems they confronted. OJJDP's national effort constituted a discretionary program designed to determine whether private, nonprofit, youth-serving programs could offer methods and resources which would enable them to address broad delinquency prevention goals. The specific objectives of the national delinquency prevention program were to increase the number of youths utilizing available services, to increase the number and types of services offered, to increase the capacity of target communities to respond more effectively to the needs of youth, to increase the capacity of agencies to implement and sustain successful services, to increase volunteer participation, and to disseminate information regarding successful program implementation. 3 appendixes
