This document contains an article on private employment of public police and one on programs to coordinate efforts to curb school crime, especially the violent crime associated with drug use. It also contains summaries of other articles on topics of interest to criminal justice professionals.
Abstract
An exploratory study of off-duty police employment practices considered 11 municipal police departments in cities of 125,000 or greater population and two county departments. It reviewed limits on off-duty work, three management models, coordination of off-duty employment and compensation issues. The article on school safety reviews the National School Safety Center, Law Related Education, Cities in Schools, and SAFE POLICY. The document also contains summaries of articles on crime prevention/deterrence; criminology; institutional corrections (adult); juvenile justice system; law enforcement; offenses; reference and statistics; system policy and planning; and victim services.
