This publication is the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services' (NDCS) 2008 annual report and statistical summary.
Abstract
The goal of the NDCS is to serve and protect the public by providing control, humane care, and program opportunities for those individuals placed in its custody and supervision, thereby facilitating their return to society as responsible persons. This publication examines the department's strategic master plan which guides service to inmates as well as the community, including discussions on how credibility, seamless criminal justice system are achieved; the need for community awareness and involvement; the department's best practices and mission for fiscal accountability; the strive towards offender accountability, family involvement, and commitment to staff, and the various available offender programs. Statistical summaries are provided for population, admissions, releases, community correction, parole, and recidivism.
