Abstract
THE HOUSING AUTHORITY POLICE FORCE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR PROTECTING LIFE AND SAFEGUARDING PERSONS ON AUTHORITY PROPERTY, MAINTAINING THE PUBLIC PEACE, PREVENTING CRIME, AND DETECTING AND ARRESTING OFFENDERS. IT ALSO GUARDS AND PROTECTS AUTHORITY PROPERTY TO PREVENT DESTRUCTION, VANDALISM, THEFT AND NUISANCE. THIS REPORT GIVES A HISTORY OF THIS SPECIAL POLICE FORCE AND OUTLINES ITS ADMINISTRATION AND ORGANIZATION. THE PATROL FUNCTION IS EXPLAINED IN DETAIL. OTHER SUBJECTS COVERED INCLUDE TRAINING, RECRUITMENT, AND VOLUNTEER TENANT ORGANIZATIONS, SUCH AS THE TENANT PATROL. AN EXAMINATION OF THE PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED BY AUTHORITY POLICE CENTERS ON COMMUNITY CENTERS, YOUTH GANGS, RACIAL TENSIONS, AND SEVERAL ASPECTS OF BUILDING DESIGN.
