This document presents the 2012-2013 Annual Report for the New South Wales Ombudsman's Office.

Abstract

This 2012-2013 Annual Report of the New South Wales Ombudsman presents information to the Parliament of New South Wales (NSW) on the work of the Ombudsman's office for the period July 1, 2012, though June 30, 2013. Highlights of the work of the Ombudsman's office include the following: provided staff with on the job training, mentoring and access to training courses, and ran training and information sessions for staff on the new workplace health and safety requirements; delivered a number of significant reports, including a final report as part of a 3-year audit of the NSW Interagency Plan to Tackle Child Sexual Assault in Aboriginal Communities, a comprehensive review of the use of Tasers by the NSW Police Force and an inquiry into the access of people in mental health facilities to disability services and support; developed and updated the office's infrastructure to better support staff and improve work practices; and generated $673,000 in revenue mostly by providing training to public sector and nongovernment agencies, which will be used to support the office's core work activities of complaint handling and systemic project work.
