This edition of OVC News & Program Updates contains eight articles on issues dealing with victims of violence, particularly children.
Abstract
The first article, Children Exposed to Violence: What the Research Says summarizes findings from the 2008 National Survey of Children's Exposure to Violence. The second article, In Kindergarten and in Debt examines the problem of child identity theft. The third article, OVC (Office for Victims of Crime) Partners with Flandreau Indian School discusses efforts by school staff to help students cope with the effects of violence. The fourth article briefly discusses the meeting between the head of the Chilean Victims of Crime Division and U.S. officials. The fifth article describes the work of the Federal Interagency Task Force on Drug Endangered Children. The sixth article, Tribal Youth Poised to Take Action in Indian Country describes violence prevention efforts by Indian youth from 45 tribes across Indian Country. The seventh article spotlights OVC's Human Trafficking Program and grantees. The eighth article describes an initiative launched by the U.S. Department of Justice, Defending Childhood that addresses the exposure of children to violence both as victims and witnesses to crime. The newsletter also contains information on updates to the OVC.gov Web site, as well as a list of resources for more information on helping children exposed to violence.
