In this issue of the newsletter of the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC), the new Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Justice Programs (Karol Mason) emphasizes the high priority of victim services in the criminal justice system; and other articles address advocacy for victims of hunan trafficking, White House action on human trafficking prevention and response, building a community of innovators to combat human trafficking, using data to improve victim services, and the development of resiliency in addressing vicarious trauma in an organization.
Abstract
"Forging Partnerships To Ensure Justice for All: An interview With Karol V. Mason" references the Vision 21 Initiative as one of the keys to realizing the development of victim-serving professionals in the criminal justice system. "Victims' Voices: Surviving and Thriving After Human Trafficking" presents a case study that shows the importance of training law enforcement professionals to perceive and serve victims of human trafficking as victims/witnesses who need services and can provide information on traffickers. "The White House Takes Action on Human Trafficking Prevention and Response" discusses issues raised by the White House and OVC during January's National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month. "Building a Community of Innovators To Combat Human Trafficking" discusses the work of the Partnership for Freedom, which is a cooperative endeavor by private and government partners to lead the way in identifying innovative and sustainable ways to address the challenges of human trafficking. "Using Data To Improve Victim Services" promotes data collection and analysis in evaluating and improving the effectiveness of victim services. "Developing Resiliency and Addressing Vicarious Trauma in Your Organization" suggests ways to address vicarious trauma among practitioners who serve crime victims.
