This guide, containing instructions, curriculums, and lesson plans, assists teachers, nurses, counselors, and related practitioners in developing child sexual abuse prevention programs.
Abstract
The curriculum materials have been used successfully with grades kindergarten through 6, and adapted for older and developmentally disabled students through grade 12. Specific topics addressed include program implementation in a school and a community setting and parent involvement. Success of child sexual abuse prevention programs is ensured by maximum community support, clear definition of goals, ongoing evaluation, well-trained instructors, a focus on safety, a plan for continued implementation, commitment to report suspected child abuse, and community ownership of the prevention program. Ten appendixes provide material on the history of a prevention program, a sexual abuse fact sheet and definitions, the touch continuum, prevention skills, incest indicators, information on reporting child sexual abuse, and resources.
