Abstract
The State crime prevention approach, which emphasizes reducing opportunities for criminal behavior, is described, as are the costs of crime prevention. The State's eight-point crime prevention program is mentioned as consisting of Operation Identification, Operation Crime Report, and other operations focusing on home security, fraud control, and other community concerns. State services offered in this area, as well as field operations, are discussed, and the activities of business and civic associations are mentioned. Finally, statistical information on crime in the State and on the results of crime prevention activities is given. Specifically, data on burglary trends and Operation Identification enrollments for Kentucky and selected counties and cities are presented. A directory of State law enforcement agencies with active crime prevention programs is included. Photographs, an organizational chart, and a map are also provided.
