This report provides an analysis of the latest statistical data on juvenile offenders and various phases of the juvenile system for the 1980s.
Abstract
Data on juvenile arrests obtained from the State Police Uniform Crime Report are analyzed for trends in total number of crimes, types of offenses, arrest demographics, distribution of delinquency, and increases in juvenile delinquency activity. Following this analysis, the number and types of cases handled by the Juvenile-Family Crisis Intervention Units (CIUs) are examined. Select information on demographics, referrals, and handling of delinquency cases is provided for juveniles involved with the Family Court. Trends in juvenile probation supervision and probation services offered are examined together with the increasing utilization of community services programs in New Jersey. The use of secure detention is discussed followed by an examination of the role of the State's Department of Corrections in handling some of the more difficult juvenile cases. The last analysis examines data on parole releases of committed juveniles. 31 figures and 9 tables
