The 1989 Asia and Pacific regional preparatory meeting for the Eighth United Nations Congress on the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders focused on five major topics and adopted a resolution for the Congress.
Abstract
The five topics are (1) crime prevention and criminal justice in the context of development, with emphasis on issues related to international cooperation; (2) corrections policies, including those related to imprisonment, other penal sanctions, and alternative measures; (3) effective national and international action against organized crime and terrorism; (4) juvenile delinquency prevention, juvenile justice, and child welfare; and (5) United Nations norms and guidelines in crime prevention and criminal justice, with emphasis on their implementation and priorities for further standard setting.
