To assess the impact of a new law upgrading burglary from a Class 2 to a Class 1 felony in Illinois, this report estimates the number of persons arrested in the State during 1980 for the crime 'residential burglary.'
Abstract
Tables illustrate burglary offenses and arrests by county. About 5,800 juvenile and 8,600 adult arrests were made in Illinois as a result of the more than 77,000 residential burglary offenses reported to police during the year. While a direct measure of the number of persons arrested for residential burglary is not available, the study indirectly estimated this figure. Data on the number of residential burglary arrests that result in prosecution and/or conviction are not currently available. The relevant legislation, maps, and study data are appended.
