This Factsheet describes the training and technical assistance (TTA) that is available to grantees of the Bureau of Justice Assistance's (BJA's) National Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI), as well as other jurisdictions, in establishing effective and sustainable practices for investigating and prosecuting violent crime, including sexual assault cases, while supporting survivors of sexual assault.

Abstract

The SAKI TTA Team of RTI International, under BJA funding, provides targeted training and technical assistance for the investigation and prosecution of cold cases that involve violence; inventorying and tracking of sexual assault kits; and advocacy and engagement for victims and their families. TTA project activities focus on delivering TTA to address immediate needs; the assessment of long-term need to address strategic challenges and priorities, as well as implement sustainable practices; facilitate cross-site learning; develop TTA on-site and online curricula that align with policy and implementation needs; and disseminate and assist with implementation of evidence-based practices. The TTA focus areas are multidisciplinary responses, law enforcement, prosecution, victim and family advocacy, sexual assault nurse examiners, forensics and crime analysis, and case management. Frequently asked questions are posed and answered.
