This instructional material provided under the U.S. Justice Department's Bureau of Justice Assistance's (BJS') Comprehensive Opioid, Stimulant, and Substance Abuse Program (COSSAP) provides annotations for and online access to training materials for jail staff that will enable them to provide beneficial supervision for inmates with opioid use disorder (OUD) or substance use disorders (SUDs).
These resources were identified by a BJA-sponsored Jail Practitioners Roundtable on Opioid-Related Training Needs held in November 2019. The purpose was to obtain input from jail practitioners and stakeholders on training products and resources that would assist jail staff in the effective management of inmates with OUD or SUDs. Among the topical areas addressed in this resource list are foundational training on SUDs/OUD. education on withdrawal management in custody and medication-assisted treatment (MAT), and information on the unique services and linkages that people with SUDs/OUD need as they reenter the community. The Advocates for Human Potential, Inc., a COSSAP national training and technical assistance provider, also compiled a resource list of materials that address the issues identified at the Roundtable. Online access is provided for each resource listing.
