This cartoon message is designed to alert and educate the public about crime prevention methods.
The cartoon presents a bloodhound, named McGruff, who is dressed like Sherlock Holmes. He conveys the message through examples that show how homeowners can prevent crime by taking simple precautions, such as lighting up front doorways, securing windows, using a timer to turn lights on when they are away, and remembering to lock their doors. The audience is encouraged to write for more information to the Crime Prevention Coalition, Box 6600, Rockville, Md. 20850. The commercial comes in three versions: 60 seconds, 30 seconds, and 10 seconds.
